Monumental Objections, an audio site tour and podcast, will supplement the current Steele Indian School Park (Phoenix, AZ) public-facing educational display, completed in 2001.

The park is one of only five historically-situated commemorative sites to off-reservation boarding schools in the US. That it exists at all is a testament to a profound local effort. Still, there is little awareness of the site by non-Native Americans in Phoenix and no scholarly work on the park as a memory site.

Monumental Objections seeks to raise awareness of an important cultural site with the public while using an interdisciplinary approach to consider how local communities remember national atrocities.
