"Creating an Archive of the 1970s Bodhgaya Land Movement: An Audio-visual Documentation by Bhuiyan Dalit Youth of Rural Bihar" creates a permanent digital archive that captures community history, Dalit struggles, and the creative ways they peacefully overcame deep-rooted caste-mediated gender barriers to control redistributed land. The project will also help raise awareness about this critical land movement within the community and elsewhere while providing opportunities for further research. In depicting Dalit agency, feminist activism, and youth empowerment, the archives, film, and photographic essays will foster strong relationships within and between Dalit communities and expand on traditional understandings of the purposes of historical archives by contributing knowledge from the people who were involved in and benefitted from the movement.
