Description

Through trans- and interdisciplinary dialogue, participants in this cluster seek to explore the complexities of contemporary U.S. migration and its connections to earlier histories as well as to international developments by engaging the diverse theories and fields that have dealt with this phenomenon. A focus on the role gender plays in the entire migration process, from shaping motivations to emigrate, to experiences during journeys, and the reception in the host country, including enforcement of immigration restrictions, incarceration and deportations, will be central to our inquiries as well as our attempts to establish comparative and international perspectives.
