Changing the way we teach and learn
HASTAC (Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory) is an interdisciplinary community of humanists, artists, social scientists, scientists and technologists changing the way we teach and learn. With over 16,000 members from over 400 affiliate organizations, HASTAC is a place to share ideas, news, tools, research, insights, pedagogy, methods and projects—including digital humanities and other born-digital scholarship—and collaborate on various HASTAC initiatives.
In 2016, ASU was chosen as the HASTAC institutional hub in partnership Graduate Center at the City University of New York. This partnership is an opportunity to create new initiatives that will engage a network of scholars working to solve great challenges with humanities methodologies.
Developing regional relationships allows us to elaborate and advance our distinctive southwestern approaches to DH, which includes our shared interests in critical race and gender studies, borderland and border theories, justice within multiple and overlapping sovereign spaces, and hybridized and resistant technology and art practices. In developing a regional coalition, we are foregrounding the work of traditionally underrepresented peoples and knowledge systems, including those who are not well represented by traditional “centers” on the eastern and western coasts of North America.
The HASTAC Scholars fellowship program is an innovative student-driven community of graduate and undergraduate students. Each year, around 100 new Scholars are accepted into a new 2-year cohort of the program. Scholars come from dozens of disciplines and have been sponsored by over 200 colleges and universities—ranging from small liberal arts colleges to large Research 1 institutions. The HASTAC Scholars program is building a community of students working at the intersection of technology and the arts, humanities and sciences. HASTAC Scholars write blog posts; interview leaders within the digital research and digital humanities fields; host online forums; organize events around the future of higher education; organize collaborative book reviews; and much more.
