Grants and awards at the Institute for Humanities Research create and imagine new futures for research and scholarship at ASU by funding humanities projects and publications.
Book Award nomination
The IHR Book Award celebrates outstanding writers whose contributions to the humanities change the conversation by fostering new directions for their discipline.
Fellows
The Fellows Program provides funding for faculty to commit to a year of intensive research and work together to meaningfully present their work to the ASU community and the public.
Seed grants
The purpose of the IHR seed grant program is to empower the ASU community to imagine, innovate and create humanities research that reveals new ways of understanding the past and future.
Micro-residencies
Micro-residencies are collaborations among ASU humanities researchers and a visiting scholar or artist from outside of the Phoenix area.
Research clusters
Research cluster awards facilitate research and communication among scholars and enrich the intellectual climate of the university.
Subvention grants
A limited number of grants assist humanities faculty with subvention costs for single-authored and co-authored works in any language, including creative works.

2021 Book Award | Every other year, the Institute for Humanities Research (IHR) Book Award honors a book of academic nonfiction by an Arizona State University humanities faculty member on any campus. To be eligible, books must be written in English, published in 2019 or 2020, and written or co-written by a tenured or tenure-track, full-time ASU faculty member whose work reflects the finest contemporary humanities-based scholarship on any topic. |

Spring 2021 Seed Grants | The seed grant program is designed to provide support for projects that advance the IHR’s mission of fostering research that addresses or explores significant social challenges in the past, present and future, employing humanities or interdisciplinary methodologies. |
Research Advancement and External Funding
In partnership with The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Institute for Humanities Research provides assistance for faculty and staff applying for external funding. Support includes identifying funding sources and providing assistance with all aspects of a grant application.
