Working Groups

As humanities-related research interests naturally arise among interdisciplinary groups of faculty, the Institute takes the lead in assembling these groups around an identified theme. For a two-year period, the groups collaborate to initiate groundbreaking transdisciplinary humanities research. They often attract funding from within the university to conduct workshops, bring external speakers to campus, and promote their research.

In order to facilitate networking, information sharing, and resource development the IHR is seeking to bring together researchers around themes that have been identified as areas of strong or emerging interest. The initial steps will include development of a distribution list for each topic and a networking or workshop session.

  • "Language is the DNA of a culture, and it is the vehicle for the traditions, customs, stories, history, and beliefs of a people. A lost language is a lost culture. Fortunately, with the aid of modern technology and these federal funds, linguistic scholars can document and record these languages before they become extinct."
    -- NEH Chairman Bruce Cole

  • A series of workshops in the spring 2010 semester for those interested in using GIS/geospatial tools for research. The first session, in early February, focused on information presented at the NEH Advanced Digital Humanities Workshop at the University of Virginia.

  • Sustainability continues to be a significant area of interest for humanities scholars.
